Hippos

We opened Mohawk Marina and Cottage on July 1, 1985. At that time our main focus was the fishing community. Years later we added an ice cream kiosk called 'Lickety Splitz,' to compliment an on-site food truck, which became Hippo's Fish and Chips.

We opened Mohawk Marina and Cottage on July 1, 1985. At that time our main focus was the fishing community. Years later we added an ice cream kiosk called 'Lickety Splitz,' to compliment an on-site food truck, which became Hippo's Fish and Chips when the food truck unexpectedly pulled out. We haven't looked back since and often wonder why we didn't start it sooner. Today, we enjoy sharing our lake front property with our fisherman, boaters, and our diners a very diverse group indeed.

Mike Walker
As the owner you will find me at work everyday during our summer season. I believe in hands on work and enjoy the friendly atmosphere our customers bring to our business. My family holidays introduced me to Lake Erie and fishing in particular. Now I am happy to be a part of my customers' lake experiences where my best childhood memories lie.

Susan Walker
I am known as Mike's Wife and play a more back of the house role that involves bookkeeping, inventory control, marketing, and staffing. I believe my career as a business teacher and employment counsellor has prepared me for my supporting role for Mike and our staff. As well Mike and I met here when we worked for my parents in the 60's, so you can say we've been around the block a few times.
