Dreaming of sailing, read his books
Reviewed roughly 4 weeks ago
This is a great book, about how his mind works and questions things when presented with the sheer physicality of a long solo voyage. The lone sailor has many hours to contemplate life, and Christian Williams is in search of an elusive fleeting moment he experienced on a previous voyage, when everything was '[censored] perfect' in an instant. Something he could not see or describe but haunted him to buy another boat and go back and try and find it. He takes us along as crew and analyses many of the thoughts and arguments of famous philosophers from a library of books he takes with him. Very readable, some great humour and for those who have experienced the long solo voyage it confirms the reasons why we keep going back to relive those fleeting moments of contentment. The only detraction is that the photographs are not in colour, it would have made this great book brilliant. - YachtMaster
