WHY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The primary reason I added this device, the Victron Smart Battery Sense<\/a>, to the collection of Victron battery management system products is that I don’t want to charge the LiFePO\u2084 batteries when it is less than 5 degrees Celsius. There is manufacturer recommended guidance on this but the Victron Smart Solar MPPT Controllers don’t have a built in temperature sensor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHAT and HOW<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This little product is simply placed on the battery and is tied into the positive and negative on the full bank, 48v. It reads the voltage and the temperature right on the batteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Victron suite of products have a Bluetooth sharing network. Most of the Victron Bluetooth enabled devices has the ability to share, read and use data across this private network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my case, the temperature and voltage is shared by this device and the solar MPPT controller can pick it up and use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My new batteries have this feature built into the batteries BMS but my older ones did not. I still like the idea of being able to shut off the charging if the temperature is too low which is how I have the solar MPPT controller configured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
