I took it apart and fixed it to at least get the boat moving but I came to a decision that I didn&#8217;t like GAS fueled motors in a boat. I would rather have either Diesel or Electric. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I decided to go electric. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In my decision path I also wanted to deal with someone local, and selected Golden Motor as they were near Toronto, near me. I could drive there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WHAT and HOW<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After researching it seemed that I probably could use a 5Kw motor to power the boat but I analyzed the 5Kw and the 10Kw and it seems that from the power curves that I would use less energy to use the 10Kw motor. As a quick summary, I could power the boat with less energy if I went with the larger motor as it was more efficient in the conversion of that energy ultimately to boat speed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I used less energy then I would use less battery, extending my range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I had to make a number of custom mounts, and you should check out my YouTube channel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/theneds\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/theneds<\/a> as a source of them all, for for more information on the if\/when\/buts of it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I decided that liquid cooling was a good idea, and you can read up on all the components and reasons <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sailons.com\/northerncomfort\/electric-motor-conversion\/\">here on my website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">*updated June 2025* after a dumb amateur move, I had to replace the controller and now have a Golden Motor EZKontrol 48v\/1200A controller. It has way more power than the VEC500 and the engine response is much better. I wouldn&#8217;t call the old one sluggish but the new one makes the old one seem sluggish. I also like the Bluetooth programming and being able to program right from my iPhone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This system is the one key critical system that I need to move the boat in docks, marinas, canals and when I have no wind or want to maintain speed on light winds.
