Why<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After running the propeller that came with the boat, the Michigan Sailor 2, I had very poor reverse torque. I found that I really had to rev the motor in reverse to have any stopping power. I was looking for something with more torque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What and How<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I decided after some time that I am not in a hurry and a folding prop although more practical for most cases I thought I just didn’t like the need to snap power into reverse to get the blades to fold out. My electric motor controller, the VEC500 (at the time) wasn’t very snappy. More like steady, apply more pressure. Maybe I am too gentle with it, but I am cautiously learning as I go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was impressed with the spec, I had more surface area with the extra blade and each blade was about 30% larger in terms of surface area. The additional 3rd blade also providing more grab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I kept the same diameter, 16inch, but lowered the pitch from 14 to 12 on account of the larger surface area. The result is that I have slightly less amps and more torque so I have a little more heat to deal with as I am using drive shaft drive with 1:1 ratio no gearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
