Unbeknownst to me at this stage, I was going to have to conduct a furling repair. Northern Comfort has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seldenmast.com\/files\/595-104-E.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a Furlex-200 S furlex-system<\/a> for the headstay \/ sail set. At about 2AM, my genoa got caught by the wind and started to unfurl slightly. It started shaking violently and I was thinking it would damage something on the mast or rigging by the violent shaking; at a minimum it would destroy the genoa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I discovered was that the Furlex rope anchor snapped within the drum. My normal practice is to furl the headsail, and cleat the furlex line so it can&#8217;t unfurl on it&#8217;s own. I usually also tie up the genoa sheets. Even though I didn&#8217;t leave them loose the Furlex unfurled about 4 feet of sail which ended up being a huge bag catching the wind. This is likely because of my own error, not tightly wrapping the sail, rather it was too loosely furled. The Genoa sheets started to get so tangled around the drum it was impossible with the shaking to pull it in, or let it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I ended up cutting the sheets and the rope in the Furlex drum so it could unroll completely and then I had a flapping sail but the Furlex wasn&#8217;t shaking any more. The sail was fully unfurled once I got the ropes cleared out. At this point I was able to pull the sail down by gathering it below my feet and using my weight to pull it down slowly. It took about an hour and a half to get down as the strength of the wind pulling on the sail made it extremely difficult to pull down the furlex track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lesson learned: after this episode I did some manual reading on from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seldenmast.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Seldon<\/a>; under anchor or at dockside, I was supposed to be looping the draw line (rope) into the tack of the sail so that it cannot rotate the drum when docked. Essentially, open the clasp on the tack, and pull the furlex drum line through the clasp and close. This provides the added benefit of locking down the drum from being able to turn. Additionally, when I furl up the Genoa, pull it in tighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the strength of the wind actually ripped the anchor line out of the drum, to repair, I took the Furlex apart and moved the rope anchor to the other half of the drum. Both halves are similar. I also taped up the crack\/hole so it wouldn&#8217;t catch on the rope when wound up. I have to buy 2 new ropes to become the genoa sheets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wasn&#8217;t the only one with incident, in the morning, I woke up to sounds of flapping in the marina as my neighbour&#8217;s boat&#8217;s boom broke and sent his main sail loose into the sailboat next to it. I went and rescued it from further damage to his neighbouring boat. What a night!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCp6y0KtzC6Ac82VcIrIJfjw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img
