Wow.
I admit that I had my doubts too, but I made it! This trip has been part of a dream I had going way back to my childhood. Not something I was steadfast focused on at all, but something I wanted to do.
As I grew up in New Brunswick, I had a natural gravity to the water, to the shore. When I moved to Ontario and life got in the way of my child dreams, well, why not watch Ep51 for a better descriptor.
This trip wasn’t without it’s share of problems and adversity. I had 3 storms, and numerous setbacks, the worst being an amateur hour careless on the fly trying to fix something and making it worse when I blew my controller.

I just wanted to thank everyone so far that has supported me on this journey of mine, to get back to the Ocean. My wife, son and family, friends, all my supporters on https://youtube.com/theneds and https://patreon.com/northerncomfort as you all were immense help. Even all the Facebook / Instagram comments https://instagram.com/danned1 from friends and family keep me engaged.
As you can see from the problem tracker, failures included:
- Controller Failure: I shorted it out trying to fix a wire on my throttle
- Torn Headsail: admittingly a little older, but when I turned south into a 20 knot headwind I should have lowered the sail and taken the stress off it – thanks Julisa for helping me get it repaired!
- Running Aground: used my head to get off the bottom, and bought a Towboatus membership for any other future issues as insurance.
- Fouled Props: had 3 solid root balls of weeds and seaweed taking my prop down 20%
- AIS Failure: not really a failure but I had to figure out what the antenna failure message meant
I am putting together more details on my Patreon site and including more details of each of my steps on this journey to Nova Scotia. I also put together a cruising budget which details all expenses I incurred along the way (available to Patreons).
I am now getting ready for my next passage, from Nova Scotia to Florida where I hope to make it to the sunny south. If you want to follow me please subscribe to my YouTube Channel and if you want to support me, my Patreon supporters are helping me get my video production underway.
Fair winds!
Dan
