Rainfresh Filter: Better Drinking Water

WHY

As I custom built a water tank now in the VBerth of the boat, I may have had some construction parts like sawdust, fiberglass dust etc in the tank I didn’t want to drink them so I needed a filter to test, and I might as well have a couple of filters for the longer reason of maintaining good drinking water. You never know what might be in the marina hose at the time of filling up the water tank.

I do use a diluted bleach solution for the water quality, an additive for regular drinking.

WHAT and HOW

I purchased this from the local hardware store, Home Hardware. Link above. I Installed this filter using 3/4″ water (human safe) braided hose. It’s braided to try and keep it’s shape (so it doesn’t collapse). The hose connects to two 3/4 hose barbs (one on each side of the filter). The filter itself (model 150) has a bypass valve on it. I also purchased a 2nd gasket which I will keep as a spare. The filter has a wall hanging mount as an option to buy. I did and it hangs nicely. The filter is connected between the through-hull of the water tank and the before the pump. Right now I am using a 20 micron size filter cartridge but I plan on adding a 2nd filter with a charcoal filter for chemicals like ammonia etc.

This water filter has changeable filters.

I may have to move the filters under the tool shelf but for ease of access I have it hanging on the side. Otherwise to address any leaks I’d have to remove the tool shelf.
