Preparing for First Solo Lake Ontario Sail

Getting ready to sail from Hamilton to Toronto, then off to Port Whitby. This will be my first solo sail in Northern Comfort!

We had no anchor. Well there was an anchor but it was inside the bow cavity under the deck, kinda useless there…; no way to get it on deck as the chain-hole wasn’t cut. Had to finish that by cutting a hole in the deck and installing a stainless steel covered chain pipe. I also added in a Samson mount in front of the chain deck pipe cover.

We also gave the propane stove a good cleaning, but never ended up hooking it up as I didn’t have the right equipment for safety compliance (decided to go electric). I threw it out.

I also replaced the 30 amp wiring as it was 12 gauge and over 30 feet long, so I put in a 10 gauge wire to the Blue Sea 30 amp breaker.

I finally figured out that the small table I had was actually for the helm station, and not bolted to the bulkhead. I was confused by this as it was inside the cabin and I couldn’t figure out what the steel legs connected to. After comparing with the helm station it was a perfect fit. Nice!

Getting close to being ready for that first solo sail!

I liked this article from West Marine on making sure you have selected the right kind of anchor.
